We are pleased to announce the success of our pilot scale CO2 capture project in a steel plant in the Middle East. With several months of operation capturing CO2 from the flue gas exhaust from a Direct Reduction of Iron (DRI) steel plant, the innovative capture system has met and exceeded all specified operational targets. The pilot scale plant captures CO2 at the rate of 2,800 tonnes per year with a 98% capture efficiency. Initial design work is currently underway on scaling the pilot system to a full-scale commercial CO2 capture system, capable of capturing up to 808,000 tonnes of CO2 per year in the same plant.
This pilot scale system, and the commercial system to follow, will be the only operating plants in the world to capture CO2 from a DRI plant, widely acknowledged to represent among the hardest to abate industrial sources of CO2.
